ESPN Must Fire Sean Salisbury

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Having previously discussed the demise of ESPN, The Critic sadly reports yet another lead weight has been added to the coffin. The entire Sean Salisbury episode showcases the network’s inability to respond to viewers and to operate effectively. Thus, within a decade, unless changes are made, ESPN will be eclipsed.
Sean Salisbury apparently photographed his penis [...]

Conventional Wisdomology

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

In the new year, we’ll be debuting a few new features at criticalsportsblog.com. One of those will be the Saturday morning power rankings, in which I take on the absurd notion of ranking a team’s chances in March based on what they’re doing in November. In fact, I take it one more step [...]

Is ESPN Becoming a Caricature of Itself?

Friday, December 29th, 2006

At one time William Randolph Hearst was the most powerful man in America. His vast fortune, ownership of newspapers, and ability to coerce were legendary. It was said that giants don’t fall but Hearst — like Napoleon, Caesar, and Enron — didn’t sustain his invincibility. Much of the same can be said for ESPN.
ESPN provides [...]

50 Grand to Fire Scoop Jackson

Monday, December 4th, 2006

There are a number of ways to express thanks. Sending a foreign leader a gold vase, writing a warm letter, or taking to the bent knee position to warm an ex-presidents heart and member. Or, like the play of the Oakland Raiders, there are innumerable ways to express displeasure.
The Critical Sports Blog admittedly goes after [...]

Should ESPN Fire Michael Irvin

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

In the pantheon of great decision makers Michael Irvin ranks just above the Night Stalker. Irvin is legendary for several reasons with all but one negative. His affinity for powdery substances insures that he’ll never be trusted with the keys to any Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles.
A week ago, more or less, Irvin made a comment on [...]

Too Much Holly Mangold

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

ESPN and Yahoo Sports are unwittingly releasing a pox on humanity. Within the space of a week each features Holly Mangold, the sister of Mr. Mangold, NFL player and SMALLER brother of Holly. It seems Holly dreams of playing in the NFL. Awww. In related news Michael Irvin hopes to be named Chairman of the [...]

Trey Wingo Is Upset With Michael Strahan

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

During the course of an average humans life he will witness horrible events, unspeakable acts, and Holly Mangold on the front page of ESPN.com. Today this humble scribe witnessed Trey Wingo, host of NFL Live, acting upset that Michael Strahan verbally took on an ESPN reporter in the locker room. The content became lost [...]

The Bristol Period or Dante’s ESPN

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Dante knew a thing or two about hell. Given the time during which he lived, with no HDTV, it’s not surprising that his time was spent composing the Inferno. No Erin Andrews, Suzy Kolber, or NFL games on Sunday, Dante lived in a veritable hell. Still, while acknowledging the difficult period in which he lived, [...]

Jemel Hill’s First Column Is The Next Nail In the Coffin Of ESPN

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Most sports fans awaited Jemel Hill’s first column to confirm that she brought with her to ESPeein the same narcoleptic approach to sentence structure that she had while writing for the Hooterville Journal. Relax. She’s as bad as ever!
It’s a crafty move by the Bristol crowd. Build page 2 and stock it with people that [...]

TravelGolf’s Chris Baldwin Bursts Into Tears

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Deadspin picked up on a story from Chris Baldwin, a journalist with TravelGolf, a must read publication if sleep is essential. Apparently Mr. Baldwin named Dan Patrick, ESPN maven, as the biggest sports jerk because Patrick snubbed an interview request from Chrissy. Huh?
In a world filled with selfish athletes, pompous coaches, and Randy Moss how [...]
